PENALTIES FOR USING A MOBILE PHONE HAVE BEEN DOUBLED TODAY

Harsher punishments for driving whilst using a mobile phone have been introduced today. The new punishments mean that drivers who are caught using a mobile phone will be given 6 points and a fixed penalty notice of £200.

This automatically triggers the new driver regulations and means that anyone who has held their licence for less than two years will have their licences revoked immediately if convicted of this offence. A new driver can receive up to 6 points before losing their licence, but due to the new penalties, only one offence of driving whilst using a mobile phone will cause the loss of licence.
